New Zealand - Day 18

A long drive today, all the way from Nelson to Franz Josef. Which took most of the day.

We stopped at Punakaiki to see the pancake rocks, massive rock formations that look like stacks of pancakes, and blowholes, where the sea comes roaring in through holes in the rock. All very impressive, so we took lots of photos and some video. Lunch there of toasted sandwiches and cake before continuing along the stunning coastal road to Franz Josef

At Franz Josef, we checked into the Rainforest Retreat, in a treehouse lodge room. Not exactly a treehouse, but up on stilts and set into the rainforest. A delicious dinner in the Alice May english style pub (lamb for me, fush n chups for Jen), followed by some star gazing to try to identify the Southern Cross, and it was time for bed. Tomorrow is glacier day.
