New Zealand - Day 19
Before checking out of our treehouse, we had to take some pictures. It's a very nice place to stay, reasonably priced, in a beautiful peaceful setting with comfortable rooms.
It was a short drive to the glacier carpark. From there we walked through lush rainforest out onto a riverbed littered with glaciated rock. Where we were walking was covered by ice 100 years ago. We clambered over creeks and rocky outcroppings to get as close to the glacier as we could. The glacier itself stretched up into the mountains, blue and white in the sunlight. All too soon it was time to move on.
We walked back to the car and headed south, driving for 6 hours through lots of stunning scenery including a big tranquil lake coloured pink by the sun setting. One final climb over a mountain in the dark bought us to Queenstown where we booked into the Rydges hotel before exploring the town and eating at a chinese restaurant.
