New Zealand - Day 4

After another delicious breakfast at the Peace and Plenty Inn, we went out into their stunning garden for some photographs before heading north.

We headed North on Highway 1 in horrible rain, but by the time we got to Warkworth the rain had eased up. A trip to New Zealand wouldn't be complete without a visit to Sheepworld, so we headed in. We wandered around feeding various small animals for 20 minutes or so, waiting for the sheep show to start.

When we headed inside there were only five of us for the show, which meant we were treated to a very personal show by Greg the shepherd, who regaled us with much kiwi humour, showed us how his sheepdog does its stuff rounding up the sheep, showed how the sheep are sorted into males, females and lambs (with the help of a volunteer) and demonstrated a sheep shearing, which I helped out with! Jen got to hug the sheep that I sheared, and the show ended with two lambs and a goat all desperate for some milk from a bottle.

While we were at Sheepworld, the sun had come out, and it stayed out for the rest of our drive North, a drive through some stunning scenery and greenery. We arrived at Paihia, Bay of Islands in the middle of the afternoon, checked into the Kingsgate motel, and wandered along the seafront. We stopped for dinner in the Wheelhouse restaurant, then went back to our hotel room for some lazy TV watching.
